Courant Projects is a creative agency with an academic focus. We combine documentary production with a rigorous research component, assisting scholars, institutions, organizations, and independent clients in translating preliminary ideas into cinematic works. Courant Projects operates at the intersection of documentary film and research practice. Our premise is that research ideas centered around humans often require a level of care higher than traditional production studios. When we produce a story, we start in the library rather than the mood board.
The agency is designed for projects that begin as a case study, a field site, an institutional archive, a social conflict, or a research problem.
2. Research and Production Method
The method proceeds from research design to cinematic execution. At the beginning, Courant Projects helps clarify what the film is asking, who should speak, where the film must go, and what visual evidence the project requires.
The film is treated as a research object: not only as a spectacle to be delivered, but as a structured presentation of evidence, testimony, place, and interpretation.

A two-hour introduction and consultation for early-stage projects. This session is intended for initial ideation and feasibility discussion. It may address scope, access, research direction, candidate interview subjects, potential sites, and the most appropriate format for the project.
